About

Meet Helen

Born and raised in Cornwall, I spent a lot of my childhood outdoors, playing in the garden and surrounding fields, and cutting grass for cash on the weekends. Our family garden was dedicated to nature in all its forms, housing vegetables, Hydrangeas, Azaleas, Camelias and Crocosmia, alongside a host of guinea pigs, rabbits, and a happy dog (or two).

When I moved to Wiltshire as an adult, I spent the next 30 years working in Dance management, and for nearly half that time I managed my own Dance company. In my work and my life, I enjoy physical activity, creativity, and working with other people.

It wasn’t until I owned my own home here in Wiltshire that I began developing my own garden, and my interest quickly reignited. I retrained in Horticulture with the RHS at Lackham College, during which time I volunteered at the historic Iford Manor near Bath. The old Wisteria, mature trees, wildflower meadow, and Japanese gardens were difficult not to fall in love with, and I was surrounded by equally enthusiastic gardeners from all walks of life.

After completing my training, I worked for a garden maintenance company for a time, then in 2021, I set up Helen’s Happy Gardens.
